Com mais bagagem e amplo reconhecimento, a banda lança "Grand Illusion", ao meu ver, o melhor álbum. Grande variedades de Power, às vezes com pitadas de Progressivo. Recomendo esse belo álbum.

Em 1990 Fredrik Mannberg formou uma banda chamada Necronomic. Mas como a formação da banda esteve sempre mudando, eles deciciram se separar. Fredrik Mannberg e Tommy Eriksson decidiram criar uma nova banda: Nocturnal Rites. Contrataram o baixista Nils Eriksson. Em 1991 a banda gravou uma demo The Obscure, que chamou a atenção de algumas editoras independentes. Porém só nos finais de 1994 a banda assinou um contrato com a editora Dark Age. No ano seguinte a banda lança o seu primeiro álbum.

E assim, grande parte de Europa conheceu Nocturnal Rites, fazendo o bom e velho metal melódico no "In a Time of Blood and Fire" (1995), apesar de ser um álbum com mais de 13 anos, é super refinado em sua estrutura musical, belas canções e um grande vocalista ( Anders Zackrisson), que ficaria até 2000. "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" (1997) já vem com mais arranjos de teclados e boas composições e "The Sacred Talisman" (1999) mostrando mais experiencia, esse álbum é perfeito para o estilo, tem tudo que se pode esperar de uma banda de Metal Melódico.
